Communication officers use a computer-aided dispatch system, receive emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency services. They determine the nature and location of the emergency; determine priorities, and dispatch police, fire ambulance or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. Receive and process 911 emergency calls, maintain contact with all units on assignment, maintain status and location of police and fire units. Monitor direct emergency alarms, answer non-emergency calls for assistance. Enter, update and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems.

The Vernon Parish E-911 Communication Officers are all certified in Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO), Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), and Telecommunicator Emergency Response Task Force (TERT), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

There are three communication consoles which make up the telecommunication officers work stations. Two of these consoles can be found within the office of E-911. The second of these consoles can be found in the dispatch room of the Leesville Police Department.

Vernon Parish Communications is managed through the Leesville Police Department.
